CareFest 2007 Matches 1,400 Volunteers with 100 Sites on April 28

April 12, 2007 – Wheaton, Ill. What do you get when you mix 1,400 people with 100 locations and a lot of projects on one long to-do list? A lot done. No joke. That’s some serious help. On Saturday, April 28, that’s the plan for five churches in DuPage County.

In an unusual multi-church effort, about 1,400 people are expected to pitch in to complete more than 100 different projects. After a short rally at Wheaton Bible Church at 8:15 a.m., the volunteers will head out to their work locations.

“We’re looking at a lot of sweat, elbow grease and old-fashioned hard work,” says CareFest ’07 coordinator Chris McElwee, “Joining us will be hundreds of people ready to get their hands dirty.”

Who is Being Helped?

This year, CareFest is working at every elementary school in the West Chicago and Glendale Heights schools districts, as well as the two schools located in the Benjamin School district in Carol Stream.

Smaller organizations like Jubilee Furniture Co., Deaf Video Communications and the Open Door for Teens will benefit with help moving furniture, painting, and floor tiling.

CareFest volunteers will also be serving larger organizations with several projects each, such as Outreach Community Center in Carol Stream, Wayside Cross in Aurora, and World Relief of DuPage County.

What’s the Catch?

“We have no agenda other than showing our community that we care and we are here for them,” McElwee said. “The goal of the event is to care for the community by cleaning and landscaping schools, apartments, and houses of people in need, not-for-profit agencies, civic organizations, such as parks, and community centers. We will also be sprucing up areas of the Forest Preserves and the Illinois Prairie Path.”

CareFest 2007 is a non-denominational, multi-church effort focused on serving greater DuPage County.
